Scotland in March 2020
While many people discouraged me from traveling to Scotland as the world was shutting down due to COVID, I have to admit that it was probably the best trip I could have taken. In fact, I’d argue that COVID made it the best trip possible.
I stayed in hostels that were empty, basically allowing me to have my own room for 20 pounds max. The only people I saw on my trip around sky were 5 French teenage tourists, and even then I often only saw the tail end of them. The fairy glenn which is notoriously crowded? There was no one there but me, and the temperature was 70 degrees.
Now, there were things I missed. For example, all of the whiskey distilleries closed down the day I arrived so I didn’t get to do an official taste testing. But the owner of the hostel I stayed at on the Isle of Sky was more than happy to provide “an experience” if I provided the whiskey. Honestly, couldn’t have asked for a better whiskey tasting.
